Bromley Hall Drive

Thanks to a super piece of organisation, on Sunday the 14th of July, we were entertained by three generations of the Beynon-Brown family. We do owe the family a huge thanks for not only the use of the venue, but the proper old fashioned tea after wards.

Edith Hockenall and Lizzie Lawrence did a splendid job of putting this drive on in fairly short order. We were offered the choice of 15 miles or the shorter 9 mile route. Sue Cole, with myself as groom with Sam, opted for the shorter route whilst Mike and Bryony Cowie with Red, Edith and Mrs Beynon-Brown with Tally, and Helen James and Jennifer Marren with Corky, took the longer drive.

The weather was slightly overcast, but pleasantly warm, and very good for the horses and ponies. We all set off individually from the roomy parking field, and were stewarded by Philip Holder and Lizzie. Both routes were interesting, with a few hills, and lots of quiet lanes. We only encountered a little traffic through Ruyton XL Towns, and many people wishing us good morning!

On return to Bromley Hall, a welcome hosepipe and tubs of fresh water were ready for the horses, and the kettle was on for tea! With all equines settled to their haynets, we all availed ourselves of the convivial entertainment around the tea table. Everybody brought lovely home made goodies, to add to the fare provided, and the conversation flowed as well as did the refreshments.

If ever there was a drive that should become a regular, this is it. The committee would like to thank our hosts, the Beynon-Brown family, for a wonderful day to remember. Thanks also, to Lizzie Lawrence and Edith Hockenall for organising, and I really hope we do it again next year.
